In 1990, Kim Clarkson watched a 20/20 Dateline story about Romanian orphans needing homes which deeply moved her. Instead of merely watching, she acted. In 1991, she adopted her son from Romania, and 1994, she adopted her daughter from Ukraine.
Once home, she began sending much needed items to a Romanian village -- food, school supplies, clothing, and scarves knitted by her mother. There were also special treats packed into the boxes which included chocolate kisses. This particular shipment inspired Kim to write Rodica's Red Scarf, the story of how a kind-hearted gift from halfway around the world sustained an impoverished family.
Kim also wanted to help families draw closer to God, so she wrote her devotional book, "Natural Devotions for Parents, Grandparents, and Mentors of Young Kids and Teens." Her website, www.turningpagesnow.org, offers free Family Faith Conversation Starters and the opportunity to join a monthly subscription, "Rooted Faith Families", which helps families grow closer to God and each other. This subscription includes family discussion guides, kid's activity pages, teen reflection prompts, and a family challenge, to name a few.
